Who am I?
I am Yasmin. I am Farooq’s sister.
My brother was murdered at Ramada by Wyndham hotel in Islamabad on 11 - 12 March 2022. You probably haven’t heard about it - and that’s the way “they” want to keep it. Who’s they you ask? Well, my brother was a UK citizen. He grew up in the UK and studied at Bradford Grammar School getting 3A’s at A-level in 1995. He was a Biochemistry postgraduate of Imperial College London and had a A* from British Biotech in his year of industry. He was then ‘blacklisted’ in the UK (more later) but was a writer (more later), freelance journalist and a political intellectual.
After he was killed, we faced huge obstacles by the Islamabad Police - they refused to investigate. The FCDO refused to help us. MPs went strangely silent. The UK mainstream media refused to report - they went strangely quiet after initial discussions and expressions of interest. But more than that, we have faced attacks in the UK - unlawful arrests and illegal court orders as “tools” have been utilised. The aim was to stop any investigation into my brother’s murder. We will share some of this on substack and re-share other works.
Given the suppression on social media platforms and lack of help (we have documented this and will share), it was important to highlight the murder and ongoing legal proceedings. Pakistani media with few exceptions has been similarly cowardly. So, this substack is me uncensored. Uncensored to speak my words without inhibition. Uncensored to share my brother’s work. Of course I don’t know how much suppression there will be but at least I’ll say exactly what I want. Because I am making it very clear: we will not rest until we have found who exactly killed our brother Farooq.
